Altinkum, meaning "Golden Sands" is  located on the Aegean coast between Bodrum (95km) and Kusadasi (70km), and is truly a 'Turkish Jewel' in the crown, with a  friendly atmosphere  'laid back locals and welcoming attitudes towards tourists.  Don't be surprised if you return year after year, and there is now a growing community of British residents making their lives in this tiny corner of Turkey.

Didim developed from the ancient city of Didim also known as Didyma, famous for it's historical sites (Didyma and Apollo temple), and is a peninsula (see map), surrounding Mugla on the east coast withthe huge inlet of Akbuk , Aegean sea on the west and east coast, Lake Bafa and the Menderes River on the northern coast, and well served by cheap flights into Izmir and Bodrum airports .

Many people, upon first hearing the name "Didim" referring to the place in which they are staying are quite confused. They are not even aware that Altinkum is, in fact, part of Didim, as are Yesilkent, Mavisehir, Yenihisar and Akbuk. Didim, part of the county of Aydin, is the regional name, which includes these lovely places and more."Yenihisar" is the Turkish quarter, often called "old town", although the name in Turkish translates as "Newcastle", and is where the Saturday bazaaar is held. The future is bright for Didim as the Turkish Government continues to encourage significant investment into the infrastructure of the area, including roads, Marina, ferry ports (to Samos, Patmos, Kos, Bodrum, and Kusadasi), golf courses.....
